Erazem's Medieval Tournament at Predjama is based on knowledge, documents and illustrations from or relating to the 16th century. This period was chosen because Predjama Castle as we see it today was given its current appearance in 1583, when the Renaissance entrance tower was built. Erazem's Medieval Tournament is an event involving several different classes: nobles, peasants and children. Bold archers, swordsmen and horsemen display their skills in the arena. The knights' camp gives visitors a chance to see the swordsmen and their equipment and learn about how they lived. The meadow by the castle mill is the scene of a gauda, a rustic festivity with food and drink, games and entertainment 'for the lower orders'.
The traditional Carters' Festival, organised by the Postojna Tourism Association, takes place each August. This event is dedicated to the carters of yesteryear and the customs and crafts connected with their activity. Rural customs are revived each year at Narin, near Pivka, with events involving representatives of tourist villages. Rustic games are held in August at Nova Vas on the Bloke plateau. Cross-country skiing races
Cross-country skiing races on the Bloke Plateau
This is the thirtieth year these races have been organised, although the number of races actually run is somewhat lower because weather conditions have not always been favourable. Each February, cross-country skiers of varying skill and ability gather here, united by their devotion to a healthy lifestyle and the snowy expanses of the Bloke Plateau.
In the spotlight
Postojnska Jama Turizem began organising concerts by top blues performers in the great hall of the Jamski Dvorec mansion in autumn 2004. These concerts have been very successful and the number of fans of this musical genre continues to grow. Six concerts are planned for the 2005-2006 season, which will conclude with the now traditional two-day festival outside Postojna Cave in May.
